An important part of the culture of philanthropy here at Kingsbury is the support of the Annual Fund. We give to Kingsbury because we care about our school. We believe in its future, so we work hard to make it secure. While Kingsbury is a remarkable educational community, it is also a place in our hearts forever. The dreams we have for Kingsbury’s future begin with strong participation in the Annual Fund today --- it is the single most important way that our community shows its support of Kingsbury Country Day School.
Soliciting current and past families as well as Kingsbury's many friends across the nation for support of the annual fund is a choice Kingsbury makes. Kingsbury is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit institution and depends partially on charitable gifts to supports its academic mission. The National Association of Independent Schools notes that virtually ALL private schools in the U.S. require additional, tax-deductible support to sustain them.
A successful annual fund and strong endowment reduces Kingsbury's dependence on tuitions. This allows parents and supporters the opportunity to help provide for the school with a voluntary contribution that helps keep tuition more affordable and the Kingsbury experience available to a wider range of students. And, unlike tuition payments, these gifts are tax-deductible. The Annual Fund is critical to Kingsbury's financial stability.
We are, indeed, very fortunate as everyone in the community gives something to Kingsbury. Whether it is time, talent or treasure, being a part of Kingsbury is being a part of supporting its outstanding educational programs and solid future as the leader in independent education in northern Oakland county. The Annual Fund makes the difference between "just a school" and the educational experience for a lifetime. When you are called upon to support Kingsbury through the Annual Fund, please do so with all your heart – we can’t make it without you!
Your donations to the Annual Fund can be designated for use in four areas.
Louise Backus was a long-time friend and benefactor of Kingsbury, a lifetime member of the Board and the mother of four alumni. The generous bequest she left the school established this endowment for environmental education. Your gift will help sustain the initiative.
Justin Schwartz was a member of the class of 1998. He lost his life in a tragic accident in the fall of 1997. Kingsbury's gymnasium/performing arts center was constructed as a legacy to Justin. Donations to this fund support the ongoing maintenance of the building as well as provide funding for the annual Justin Schwartz scholarship.
This is the permanent fund which provides the stability from which Kingsbury plans its programs. Only the yield on the endowment portfolio/investment is used, and then only when absolutely necessary.
This category gives the Board of Trustees the option to use funds where they see the greatest need.
