SCIENCE COMES ALIVE at KINGSBURY JUNIOR EXPLORER CAMP

Kingsbury Kids on the trail to learning.
Kingsbury Kids off to their summer program activities!

KCDS is offering two exciting camp sessions designed specifically for children who will be in Junior Kindergarten through Third Grade in Fall, 2008. Our camp is science-based with many hands-on activities that will be sure to inspire the campers. The camp is a superb introduction to the day camp experience for boys and girls who enjoy exploring the environment around them. Books and stories, arts and crafts, singing, cooking, dance, experiments and nature walks will help your child discover, explore and experience science in a variety of ways. In addition, there is lots of traditional camp fun to top off the experience with field trips and beach/water park adventures highlighting the week's activities.

Session Descriptions

  • Week 1: Our Big Backyard, July 14 – 18
Come explore the exciting 125-acre campus of Kingsbury Country Day School. The woods, ponds and grasslands are full of many adventures for campers. Through nature hikes and other outdoor activities, campers will study and learn about the many plants, insects and animals that live in each of these bountiful habitats. Many books and stories will inspire us to sing, move, explore, create and play. A highlight of this week will be creating a classroom aquarium with the COOL things we find! A field trip to the nature center and beach will highlight the week.
  • Week 2: Wonders of the Rainforest, July 21-25
Where can you find a snake that can fly or a spider that eats birds? In the rainforest, of course! Experience the sights and sounds of this amazing ecosystem as we transform Kingsbury into its very own rainforest! We’ll be learning about insects and other animals that live high in the forest canopy as well as the ones that live on the forest floor. Hands-on activities will help us learn more about this endangered habitat and learn what steps you can take to become a rainforest “hero.” You’ll even get a chance to meet some of the creatures we’ve studied as Science Alive brings live animals from the rainforest to Kingsbury. To finish out this week, a trip to the waterpark has been planned.
