Teaching is the most rewarding of professions. I have the opportunity to work with children each day who are excited about learning. I love being a part of their development as thinkers and as people with increasingly good self-esteem. Each year at Kingsbury, I am challenged to do my very best teaching. Because I am the only English instructor for sixth through eighth graders, I feel extremely responsible for challenging students to improve their writing and thinking skills. Kingsbury kids grow into self-assured young adults as they take pride in their newfound educational and social skills. I also work with eighth graders as their high school placement advisor. It is truly rewarding to have nearly all of our Kingsbury graduates placed in their high school of choice.
Kingsbury has been a huge part of my life for more than two decades. The community connections with staff, students, and parents are invaluable. I can look back and feel that I have done something positive in my life in an unbelievably beautiful, natural setting surrounded by caring people.
Kingsbury kids are special for many reasons. They seem to be a happy, questioning, confident group. Having small classes allows kids to get to know and respect each other. Kingsbury students value their education and the opportunity to attend such a unique school. They love having a voice in the learning process.
My first teaching experience was as a high school English teacher at Lakeview High School. After nearly six years, I "retired" to raise my two girls. After substitute teaching in the Rochester district for two years, I joined Kingsbury in 1983 as Middle School English teacher. In 1990, I became the high school placement advisor for eighth graders. I also taught six terms of freshman composition at OCC in the early 1990's.
