Teaching Philosophy

Teachers must be in the classroom to guide students along their educational journey while addressing standards and benchmarks in the most efficient manner possible. Teachers will demonstrate proper techniques using strategies that are scientifically proven in the field, while enhancing curiosity in the students and allowing them to explore their own knowledge. Students will use techniques and models to develop their own understanding of content, with the teacher monitoring the students' ideas and molding those ideas into the most accurate yet personal concepts possible for each student.

On Kingsbury

While new to the school, faculty, and families; Kingsbury is an institution that, when mentioned, lights up the faces of those in which I am speaking to. I have yet to be anything but amazed by the number of families who are familiar with the school and the exceedingly high expectations students meet year after year. I am honored to be a member of the Kingsbury community and have the opportunity to inspire students the way they have been in the past.

On Kingsbury Kids

In my mind, Kingsbury students are the students in which every administrator should strive for in their school community. They are thoughtful, caring, and determined to succeed in every way possible. I am constantly amazed by the genuine character of each and every one of them; and am excited to push myself day after day to become the best educator I can be for the students and parents of this school.

Bio

I was born in Minnesota and grew up with two brothers, Doug and Jason, and my parents, Paula and Fred. My dad worked for General Motors, and when he received a big promotion, we all moved. As a family, we have lived in Minnesota, Michigan, and Connecticut. The constant distance from our extended family required a lot of driving. Those long road trips almost always resulted in mathematics games. To this day, I attribute my love for the subject to those car rides!

I graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with three content focus areas: elementary education, mathematics, and science. Since graduation, I have taught at Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts, Linden Grove Middle School, and Kalamazoo Central High School; all of which are on the west side of the state in Kalamazoo. These three schools included positions within math, science, and technology programs. I have also coached softball at Kalamazoo Central High School and basketball at Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts.

In December of 2011, my husband, Jeff, and I were married in Minnesota. We have built our first house in Lake Orion where we live with our new Golden Retriever puppy, Dakota.
