Reading has always been a special joy for me. I enjoy keeping up with all the new and exciting happenings in reading education. I align my curriculum with current educational research and create an atmosphere of respect and stress the importance of each individual learner.
At Kingsbury, the Reader's Workshop format is the basis of much of the children's early reading experience. I partner with the classroom teachers to plan, prepare and teach according to the workshop format. Instructional practices that foster student success in literacy all built into every program. I assess the reading strengths and needs of students and assist teachers in designing student-centered language arts activities and centers. In addition, I serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve achievement for all students, working with struggling readers in particular. We implement the Orton-Gillingham strategies and use the Junior Great Books program. My activities vary from one-on-one to small group lessons.
I feel that when school is challenging, developmentally appropriate and fun, children strengthen their foundation to remain self-motivated, independent learners throughout life. Kingsbury is precisely that place.
Kingsbury kids have a love of reading that stays with them throughout their years. Each child learns to be strong, self-confident, respectful, and responsible. They are a joy to teach and to know!
