Teaching and learning go together: coaching, facilitating, guiding, encouraging, supporting, reinforcing, positive guidance are all important concepts. I like to build upon each child's strengths, encourage risk taking in a safe, secure environment and build a community of caring learners through dependable and enjoyable classroom routines, rituals, and responsibilities. I love school and want to pass that on!
Kingsbury to me means so many things: small classes where we can really get to know the kids; dedicated faculty who have kids' best interests at heart; freedom within curriculum guidelines to use the “teachable moment;” wonderful cooperation from and support of families; encouraging administration; beautiful surroundings; the joy of nature; family atmosphere; supportive and experienced colleagues.
Kingsbury Juniors are special because, as I tell them, “four is my favorite number!” Really, this age is great because the kids are so eager to be in relationships and experience everything. They are ready to learn and can't wait to try new things and use their imaginations. It's a pleasure to really listen to them and give them credit for all their good ideas, which helps them have confidence in themselves and allows them to keep thinking. Also, Kingsbury families get involved in their kids' learning, which is key to the child-family-school partnership. It's such a delight for me to see how they grow as the years go by and often return to JK as TAP (Teachers' Assistants Program) kids!
