Philosophy
On His Profession
Teachers must nurture students’ interest in the learning process while addressing important areas of the social studies curriculum by encouraging them to take risks, and develop strengths to foster a lifelong love of learning. A teacher’s job is to create a strong and safe learning community within the classroom to allow students to reach their goals, and strive for deeper understanding. By giving students an authentic, inquiry based, student directed educational experience, teachers enable ownership of knowledge, and personalize education.

Kingsbury’s reputation precedes it across the Michigan educational community. When I have mentioned the name Kingsbury, teachers, parents, and even former students speak of its dedication not only to education, but to children, families, and the community.
On Kingsbury Kids
I have met several Kingsbury students in the past few weeks and have been impressed by their enthusiasm and cheerfulness. I am anxious to meet each all of Kingsbury’s students as I get to know the school and the community in this coming year.
Bio
Before education found me, I had been a working chef in several fine dining establishments throughout the Detroit Metro area. I received my culinary certification from Schoolcraft College where I also taught cooking skills to middle school students. My first teaching experience outside the kitchen was at East Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills. I served as a para-professional in a special needs classroom while attending Oakland University to complete my certification in Elementary Education. After graduation I was invited to be the full-time building substitute at Birmingham Covington School, a science and technology school, where I also completed a long-term substitute position in a multi-age classroom. I have tutored privately for the past 5 years, and continue to keep my hand in cooking through catering and teaching experiences. I am looking forward to my new position, and am excited to share my love of the Social Studies with the Kingsbury community!
