The music curriculum is viewed as an important part in the lifelong pursuit of learning at Kingsbury Country Day School. It teaches the students to have an awareness and appreciation for music for all of their years to come. The curriculum is based on a safe environment in which the students are encouraged to express and explore all elements of music. The elements of beat, rhythm, harmony, tone, texture, color, melody, and aesthetic enjoyment are developed through singing, clapping, echoing, playing the instruments, movement, dancing, listening, reading, writing, and performing.
Kingsbury Country Day School is the most unique learning and teaching environment that I've ever experienced. The community that has been established here allows me to not only know my students as individuals, but also to know their families on a more personal level. The networks of support, from the administration, parents, faculty, and students, have allowed me to truly enjoy my job.
The students that come into my classroom are extremely motivated and enthusiastic to learn. They participate willingly and they ask pertinent questions that help them to connect the subject of music into their other disciplines and life experiences. Kingsbury kids are responsible for their actions and they care for others – even those much older or younger than themselves. They are proud to attend Kingsbury Country Day School, and they represent us well in their years here and as they continue into higher education.
I've been teaching at Kingsbury since 2001.
